IMAWA's Convention
The 57th annual convention at the Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria, Illinois, was another great success!
Among the events was the kickoff for IMAWA's 14th annual charity fundraiser to benefit the Special Olympics Illinois: Raffle tickets for a 37" flat screen TV and Wii System will be sold from March 15, 2020 through June 15, 2010. Ticket prices are $5.00 each or five tickets for $20.00. All proceeds will be used to help send the Illinois delegation of athletes to the Special Olympics National Games in Lincoln, Nebraska, this July. Through 2009, IMAWA members have contributed more than $85,000 in cash (which doesn't even include all the generous donations of items for the auction and other events). Congratulations to all!
In other news:
Heather A. Nelson was named recipient of the IMAWA's 2009 Doug Schneider Scholarship. Ms. Nelson is a full-time employee at Federal Warehouse Co. in East Peoria and Dean's List student at Bradley University with a goal of becoming an attorney.
The Doug Schneider Scholarship is named in memory of our board member Doug Schneider (Bill's Moving & Storage, Rock Island), who inspired the scholarship back in 1994. Twenty students have benefited from Doug's foresight, and we're proud of them.
Elizabeth McSparin is the winner of IMAWA's first annual NAIT Charitable Foundation Scholarship. Ms. McSparin is a freshman at the University of Kentucky, studying History/Political Science. Her father, Kevin McSparin, uncles, and grandfather have a 60-year work history with Bill's Moving & Storage, Rock Island IL. This brand-new scholarship is made possible through a generous endowment from the National Association of Independent Truckers Charitable Foundation.
